He climbed up a quarry 30 feet deep and up a ladder 10 feet to close a steam tap at a drilling machine which had been left open to prevent freezing, and as he returned the ladder slipped at the foot and it and the deceased fell to the ground. Died January 1st, 1910. The ladder was most insecurely set on a slope. No rope was used. The night had been wet, and the accident occurred before daylight when no artificial light was provided.
