- Fall of side and overburden. They had a burden platt or bench some yards wide but had worked most it away and were engaged taking it down a further slice leaving only yard or so remaining with the natural result that when a quantity of overburden and side gave way it fell upon them and carried them off the ledge to the bottom of the quarry some 20 feet below. The place was to have been left in a day or so not being deemed safe to work there in the winter the margin of safety the manager's opinion being the difference between a fine and a wet day. (Proceedings were instituted enforce penalties when a fine of £5 and £1 13s. 9d. costs was imposed on each of the two partners.) 2 killed.
