Occurred in the Five Quarter seam which has a soft fireclay roof. He was retimbering an old road at a point where another road crossed it at right angles and running balks required to be used He had put in several new crowns temporarily to supported middle props until the running bars were put up when a heavy fall of roof amounting to 20 tons of stuff canted all the timber and buried him.
