- Details of Event
- Inspection made and inquest attended. A hole 2 feet deep charged with one dynamite cartridge had missed fire and on the top of this charge a half cartridge was subsequently inserted and fired. The blasting regulations in force at this mine provided that in cases of misfire after waiting not less than 30 minutes a full cartridge must be inserted on the top of the original charge. When half cartridge exploded the men thought that it had achieved its object by detonating the original charge. They do not however appear to have made any particular examination and a few hours afterwards while they were working out the shattered ore with a pick the explosion occurred.
