- Died 26th February 1902. Inquest held and the jury found 'The said Robert Garbutt died at Ashington on the 26th day of February, 1902, from cardiac failure excited by a wrench he accidentally received through using a hammer in the Ashington Colliery on the 9th day of February 1902. No mortem examination was made. Deceased's widow sued the Ashington Coal Co. for compensation in the County Court but was non-suited the Court finding that the injury was caused by the use of the mall used in the and proper way and that no fortuitous or unexpected circumstances arose in connection with that use other than the injury itself.
