A train of 24 empty wagons was being pushed by a locomotive and, when standing on the buffers of the front wagon, Galloway slipped while attempting to jump off, with the result that he fell in front of the train and was run over by three wagons. The only explanation was that the frosty weather had rendered the footplate slippery.
