Suffocated by carbonic acid gas. He and another man were going to a hydraulic pump when they found the place full of stythe. One man refused to go in and tried to prevent Gallon but he would go and was killed. A quantity of stythe had been seen there before and it is supposed that as the water lowered it uncovered a drift to another seam, and the gas came off. It came back about 30 yards on the waggonway.
