25 April 1921: Kirkconnel Miner Killed – William Gallacher (18) who resided with his parents in Back Street, Kirkconnel, was killed while engaged digging coal at an outcrop in East Side Glen. A large stone, estimated at 5 cwts, fell on the top of him and dislocated his neck. [Scotsman 26 April 1921]
