15 February 1927: Blantyre – Fatal Colliery Accident – On Tuesday, a fatal accident occurred in No.2 pit of Blantyre Collieries (Messrs William Dixon Ltd), the victim being a young miner named Benjamin Frew (18), who resided at 73 High Blantyre Road, Burnbank, Hamilton. While at his work in the Ell coal seam a large stone suddenly came away and the unfortunate lad was completely pinned beneath it. When extricated life was found to be extinct.
