- 10 October 1922: Engineman's Death at a Hamilton Colliery – Samuel Baird, 21, table engineman, Meikle Earnock, was accidentally killed while at work at Neilsland Colliery, Hamilton. He was caught in the machinery and death was instantaneous. [Scotsman 12 October 1922]
On Surface – By Machinery – He had been oiling a bearing when his clothing was caught by a driving chain and sprocket wheel. He was whirled round the shafting and killed instantaneously. Prior to the accident part of the fencing of the wheel and chain had been removed, presumably to adjust the chain, and had not been replaced. Newspaper report - Hamilton pages
