- Details of Event
- The deceased's work was to attend to the friction gearing that hauled the wagons up the short incline from the quarry hole, and to weigh the wagons on a machine at the brow. A roller fixed in front of the drum, to guide the haulage chain, from some cause got loose and fell under the drum. To recover it he climbed over a fencing '1 feet 3 inches high, and in dropping to the ground his coat was caught by the friction wheel shafting and he was whirled round by it. He died shortly after being released. He ought to have signalled for the engine to have been stopped before attempting to recover the roller.
