- Details of Event
- Deceased was working in an "opening" in a bed of limestone, 12 yards thick, and having an inclination of 45 to 50 degrees. He stood on a ledge about 3 feet wide in the centre of the opening, and was drilling a hole in the stone with a hammer and hand punch. A chain ladder hung over the slope beside him. The drilling was heard to cease, following by a scruffling noise, and deceased was found lying on some loose stone at the foot of the opening, bleeding from a wound on the head and in an unconscious condition. Deceased had apparently slipped or overbalanced himself and fallen down the slope. He was removed to hospital, where he died the following day.
