- Details of Event
- Fall of roof and side in the main slope from an unseen slip and cross joint. The stone was a bastard rock and very hard. It appears that two or three attempts had been made on different occasions to get it down, in order to increase the size of the road, but it was found to be too hard. The fall was about 15 tons, and the condition of the stone could net have been detected by sounding. The accident occurred as the men were passing on their way to work in the morning, and it was fortunate that others were not also caught. 2 killed.
