- Details of Event
- Deceased who was the son of the overman and another man were hewing in a broken place in the Low Main seam which was nearly holed. A stone 6 feet by 3 feet and 14 inches thick from the roof upon him close to the face and brought with it 3 inches of inferior coal left on next the roof and which makes it difficult to detect natural divisions in the stone above. The stone was released by a small hitch a slip and a jack. The deputy had been twice in the place before the accident and noticing the breaker coal instructed them to clear away some bottom coal and set timber before starting at the face in the main portion of the seam and deceased appears to have been so engaged when the roof fell. There was a good supply of loose timber. The Local Inspectors in their report simply described how they found the place after the accident.
