16 May 1927: John Bain, surface worker, dropped down dead at the pithead of the Nellie pit, Lochgelly, at noon yesterday. He had just resumed work after being idle since the beginning of the miners' strike. Deceased was over sixty years of age, and was a sergeant in the old Fife Volunteer and Territorial Force.
