13th April 1935, Fatal Mine Accident At West Calder. A shale miner named William Fleming, who resided at Harburn, lost his life as the result of an accident in No.26 Shale Mine, West Calder, yesterday. He was at work when a stone fell from the roof, and broke his neck. Death was instantaneous, Fleming was a married man. (The Scotsman, 13th April 1935)
