While pressing home a cartridge of gelignite in a shot hole with a wooden rammer the charge exploded. The jumper with which the hole was drilled had a diameter of only one thirty-second of an inch greater than the diameter of the cartridges. Apparently the deceased had not properly thawed the cartridges. The method of thawing the cartridges was to put them in a jar placed in a pan of water which was then heated on a paraffin stove.
