- 5 January 1926: Mineworker Injured – An Alarming accident happened at the Brighill Colliery on Tuesday as the result of which Mr Ben Flannigan (33), 110 Auchterderran Road, is confined to his bed in a critical condition. The injured man was employed on the surface at the “fire holes” His work was to remove the dross from the waggons in the holes. On Tuesday he was cleaning the rails after having emptied one of the waggons, when, unseen by him, the engine approached and knocked him over. His back was thought at first to be broken but on examination it was found to be only severely bruised. His chest was also injured through his being thrown on some projecting girders.
