The shotlighter, contrary to Special Rules, not having connected the wires from the detonator to the electric cable himself, accepted a statement from deceased that he had done so, and thinking that he had gone into a place of safety, went back to the battery and fired the shot. On returning to the place he found deceased so badly injured that he died within a few minutes. The shotlighter was subsequently proceeded against before the magistrates and fined for non-compliance with the Special Rules.
