Deceased and another miner were descending the shaft in the cage, when an iron strap, which had become detached from the wooden pump rod, and was projecting into the cage space, caught the cage bottom, causing it to tilt, and deceased was thrown out and fell down the shaft, a distance of about 32 fathoms.
