- Details of Event
- Deceased was killed by a load carelessly allowed to run into a dip 10 yds. long with an inclination of 1 in 2.5 while he was assisting to couple an empty tub to the rope on the plates at the bottom. The top-block in use on the landing at the top consisted of a long pole placed across the plates and resting against two props, but with no provision to prevent it being inadvertently displaced endwise. A loader who was waiting to jig a load interfered with the pole before getting a signal to jig and allowed the load to run amain. He was prosecuted under Special Rule 8 and on conviction was sentenced to one month's imprisonment. Such stop-blocks are however apt to be a source of danger unless some provision is made to prevent them being pushed aside in either direction.
