- Details of Event
- The seam has a gradient of 1 in 2.5 and is worked to the full rise. Holing is done in friable shale overlying the seam. Sprags are set from the coal to the roof, and stretchers from the face to props to, guard against slabs of coal falling over owing to the steepness of the measures. The deceased and his brother, soon after arriving at the stall, began taking out sprags and using a wedge the coal. Deceased was incautiously in front of the coal, while his brother was wedging at the buttock end, when a slab of coal fell and fatally crushed him against a prop.
