- Details of Event
- He was engaged with others in lifting a coil of wire rope out of a railway truck by means of a band crane mounted on a bogie. The load was raised by two men at each handle until it was clear of the truck side. The men then pushed the crane-jib to swing it round. It was generally stiff, but on this occasion it turned very easily, and the momentum of the weight (about two tons) as it swung out overturned the bogie, and all four men were thrown off. The balance weight broke from its fastenings and fell on to Ferry's head. The bogie was provided with clips to fasten it down to the rails, but they had not been attached.
