- Details of Event
- Deceased had holed a piece of coal triangular in shape with sides 9ft long, at the corner of a rib of cod in a Little Mine drift. A shot-hole had been bored and whilst this was being charged deceased got down under the coal to clear out some slack left there while holing. A portion of the coal, which was standing on three sprigs, fell from a diagonal slip and a parting in the coal 6ins. from the roof, and caused such injuries to deceased that he died upon the following day. It is probable that one or two sprags set half-way under the holing would have prevented this accident.
