The colliery locomotive was pulling some wagon out or a siding when he saw that the brake or the last wagon was down. He attempted to lift the brake handle by rising his break-stick over the wagon spring as a lever, he, however, pushed the stick too far in, and the spokes of the wheel caught it and caused him to be thrown under the wheels of the moving wagon. He was severely injured and died a week later.
