- Details of Event
- Electrocuted. Three colliery workers were electrocuted, one fatally, in the underground workings of Millhall Colliery, Stirling, last Tuesday afternoon. Charles Ferguson (30), oncost worker, 44 Upper Bridge Street, Stirling, who was killed and Alexander Orr, coal stripper, 22 Scott Street, Stirling and Frank Keirnan, oncost worker, 42 Park Drive, Bannockburn, were removing a trough pan when the edge of it cut a 500 volt trailing cable. The electric shock threw the men to the ground. Orr and Keirnan were merely dazed and on recovering, they summoned assistance. Ferguson lay where he had fallen and artificial respiration was applied but without success. Examination by a doctor confirmed that he was dead. Ferguson was a married man with two of a family. He was formerly a well-known juvenile footballer in the district and played for Raploch Hearts. On learning of the fatality, the colliery stopped work as a mark of respect, the colliery remaining idle until the back shift the following day. (Stirling Observer).
