- Deceased worked in a narrow bord 9ft wide in the Bensham seam he had prepared two shots in the coal and the shot firer had fired one and returned to the face to couple the cable to the second shot followed by the deceased when a stone 11.5ft wide by 4.5 ft wide and with an average thickness of 9 inches fell from the roof close to the face and caught deceased the shot firer narrowly escaping. The stone was relieved by a slip the presence of which was known before the accident but as timber was set under the stone it thought safe and the shot firer had examined the roof before the accident. The timber under the stone was broken and The Local Inspectors stated ‘they found it in accident.'
