A stone from the roof had fallen, and was resting with one end on the body of the machine, and the other on the wheel operating the starting switch. Deceased was attempting to push it off the machine whilst standing on the disc. In doing so he caused the wheel to revolve, and so started the machine. His right leg was carried partly round with the disc, and was completely severed. He died about four hours later.
