- Details of Event
- Killed instantly by three ‘dandies’ or ash trams which ran wild down the incline leading to the boilers without having been attached to the rope by which they are let down and drawn up. The labourer who with another man had to remove the ashes pulled the trams into the incline and kept the runaway switches over to let the trams down to the boilers thinking they were attached to the rope. Deceased was repairing a ‘tapping cock’ in front of the boilers at the time. The labourer was censured severely by the coroner’s jury for negligence although not amounting to ‘culpable negligence.'
