- Details of Event
- He and another driver were taking an empty tub down an incline of 1 in 7, for the purpose of riding in it out to the shaft. A "coupler" which they had used to lock the wheels fell out, and the tub ran away to the bottom of the incline and dashed into a wagon of timber. Deceased, who had clung on to the back of the tub, was severely injured and died a few minutes later. The practice of riding in tubs is a breach of Special Rule No.78 (Derbyshire), and the survivor admitted that they knew they were breaking the rules.
