Deceased was hewing at the face of a jud in the Maudlin seam, when without any warning a large fall of roof occurred over an area of about 5 yards by 4 yards and 3 feet thick. It reeled out all the timber which was spaced at not more than 2 feet. It came away from a slip at the face and a break about 4 yards back. Deceased was buried and suffocated by a quantity of fine dirt into which the fall broke. The place had been examined and timbered up by the deputy less than half an hour before the accident.
