While stemming a shot hole charged with Rippite, soft yellow clay being used, and a wooden rammer, the charge suddenly exploded and killed him. Considerable difficulty was experienced in ascertaining the exact circumstances attending the accident; but it would appear from evidence that considerable force was used in stemming, and probably the detonator was struck by a small stone or pebble. The charge was to have been fired electrically.
