- He was found by the putter lying unconscious in his place. He partly revived, and said a piece of stone had fallen and hit him on the head. The largest piece of stone that could be found weighed 5 lbs. The height of the seam was 5 feet 6 inches,. There were no external evidences of injury, but he died the next day. An inquest was held on 15th April, following a post-mortem. In accordance with the medical evidence the jury found that death was due to haemorrhage on the brain, caused by a blow on the head.
