He and another man were ripping and packing a wide roadway driven in the solid coal, and while in the act of packing, a fall 4 feet 6 inches long, 3 feet wide, and 3 inches thick fell across his shoulders, fracturing his spine. He died 11 days later. Another man’s right leg was fractured.
