28 May 1935: Fatality At A Sanquhar Colliery - James Elliot; aged 37, who resided at Anderson Street, Kelloholm, was killed in an accident at Gateside Pit, Sanquhar, yesterday. He was employed as an engineer at the pit, and was repairing the dross elevator. The chain which carries the dross buckets slipped and crashed into the dross hole, taking Elliot with it. His neck was fractured, and death was instantaneous. He leaves a widow and two young children. [Scotsman 29 May 1935]
