Fall of roof on road while repairing. The deceased had been assisting a timberman to strengthen the timbers on a roadway which had shown evidence of considerable roof crush. They had begun setting timbers on either side of those already standing. They then went to a manhole to prepare wedges to fasten the timbering to the sides, when a huge fall of roof crushed down and killed Edwards, the timberman being also slightly injured. About 40 tons of roof material was estimated to have come down. Lower seam. Safety lamps.
