Deceased was lifting a piece of dirt, when it broke in his hands. To avoid the falling pieces he jumped backwards and collided with a prop, bruising his back. He resumed work on 11th January, 1909, but died suddenly when at work. The medical evidence at the inquest attributed death to cardiac failure, accelerated by the accident.
