24 April 1924: Stoneyburn Miner Killed - At Foulshiels Pit, Whitburn, yesterday, Joseph Edgar (34), married, residing at Stoneyburn, while working at the coal face, was buried under a large stone and debris. His brother, who was working near, at once procured assistance, and the stone was removed, but Edgar was dead. Death was due to a broken spine. [Scotsman 25 April 1924]
