- Details of Event
- While deceased was hewing between the pack wall and the coal face immediately to the left side of the road head in a longwall place in the Barlowfield seam a gravelly post stone about 4 feet square and 10 inches thick fell from the roof upon him. The stone projected slightly over the pack and had no doubt been relieved by deceased hewing the coal from under the other side or end of it. No props were set under the stone but loose timber was close at hand. The deputy during his inspection before the men started had sounded the roof at the point and considered it safe and was close at hand when the fall occurred and assisted in releasing deceased. The Local Inspectors reported ‘in our opinion it was a pure accident and we attach no blame to anyone.'
