- Details of Event
- Deceased and another boy were dragging props from a shunt along a main gate-road in the Ince Four Feet Seam, when a sudden fall of roof occurred owing to two bars breaking. The bars had only been set about ten days previously, and were 7.5 inches square, and from 2.5 to 3 feet apart. Four feet from one end an additional prop had been put under each bar. The timber broke off short, due to a sudden weighting of the roof, and owing to the nature of the strata, larch timber would probably have been more suitable. Another boy, who was only 8 or 4 yards behind, had a narrow escape.
