- Details of Event
- It was the deceased's duty to regulate the speed of full sets of eight tubs, that passed through a jut-block, by means of a screw which pressed the block on to the tub sides. When the second set of the shift was at the jut-block, deceased was found lying face downwards between the first tub wheels and the brick wall at the road-side, dead from a broken neck. He was nine feet away from his seat at the wheel screw. The tub had not passed over him. The set stooped at the usual place. It is probable he stretched his head forward to look along the road as the set was approaching the block when a projecting lump, of coal pushed his head against the curved roof. He had been employed underground only about eight days.
