- Details of Event
- He was standing close to an oblique shaft 1.75 inches in diameter, which was making about 14 revolutions per minute, when by some means his coat was caught by it and he was pulled round the shaft. He died on the following day. It is supposed that he was reaching over the shaft to oil a bearing, and for this purpose had removed a fence rail which was guarding a collar fastened on the shaft by a set stud. The bearing could easily have been oiled without removing the fence.
