15 January 1929: Whitburn Pit Fatality - A young lad named David Dunlop (15), who resided at East Benhar Rows, Fauldhouse, sustained fatal injuries yesterday in No.1 Pit, Cultrig Colliery, near Whitburn, belonging to Barr & Thornton (Ltd.). He was employed as a clipper, and was found in the main haulage road under a rake of full hutches by which, it is thought, he was run down. [Scotsman 16 January 1929]
