- Details of Event
- Deceased was hewing alone in a stenton 6 yards wide in the Brockwell seam; when his marrow came to take his place at 9.30 a.m. he found a large stone had fallen from the roof close to the face upon deceased. The stone was 12 feet long across the face and 5.5 feet wide and 1 foot thick and in its fall had displaced five props. It was released by a slip next the face and by a keen parting above. The deputy had been in the place at 6.20 am, and had set two props and left the place in his judgement safe. There was a good supply of loose timber. The Local Inspectors reported, ‘it is our opinion it was unforeseen and accidental.’
