- 9 March 1915: Pit Hoist Accident At Lumphinnans - Mary Duffy, pithead worker, residing at Beveridge Place, Lumphinnans, met with an accident at No.1 Pit, Lumphinnans Colliery, on Tuesday. The girl was engaged taking off and putting on hutches at the hoist. She had put on the hoist a pail containing grease for the purpose of lowering it. She then stepped on the hoist, when her weight set it in motion, with the result that she fell to the bottom. She sustained concussion of the brain and a large wound on the right side of the head above the ear. She was attended to by Dr Young, Cowdenbeath, and conveyed home.
