- Details of Event
- He came out of one district to go into another sitting on a tram drawn by a pony. He had worked down Ryhope Pit for 49 years, and was described as a most careful man. Nevertheless, he drove for some distance along the road going inbye without noticing by the ropes that the set was coming out. Evidently his mind was preoccupied, and when the set was close on to him he jumped out of the tram to that side where there was least room. He was caught and dragged some distance by the set. The pony had crossed out, and the tram had been struck by the set and knocked clear. The pony was uninjured.
