- Details of Event
- Two men got into a Great Central Railway wagon for the purpose of moving the bar running lengthwise from side of the wagon to the other while the deceased placed a trestle in position upon which to lower the side, door and to place a plank to wheel a harrow on in order to fill the wagon with chalk Stone. One of the men in getting into the wagon took one of the pins, by which the side door is fastened up, out without seeing that the other was in. It was not, and when the bar was pulled over, the jar of its falling on to the side caused the door to fall and strike the deceased, who was underneath, on his head and the back of his neck. The spinal cord was lacerated and he died on the 14th. This accident was solely due to want of care on the part of the man who took the pin out, which secured the side door as he got into the wagon, in not seeing that the other was in position.
