- 17 December 1932: Holytown Pit Fatality - On Saturday morning a fatal accident occurred at Thankerton No.6 Colliery, Holytown, causing the death of a machineman named James Doyle, residing at Hallcraig Street, Airdrie. Doyle was at work in the Virtuewell section, when a section of the roof gave way and covered him with a mass of stones and debris. When he was extricated life was found to be extinct. The deceased leaves a wife and one child. He had been working for only a few days at that colliery. [Scotsman 19 December 1932]
