- Details of Event
- 12 March 1938: John Downie, employed as a waggon attendant at Leadside Pit, Wellwood Colliery, near Dunfermline, died in the Dunfermline and West Fife Hospital on Saturday from the effects of injuries which he received in the course of his employment on Thursday. He had been making adjustments on the drum of a haulage machine at the pithead, when, it is believed, his hand having become caught he was dragged into the moving machinery. When extricated by workmates he was unconscious, and suffering from injuries, including a fracture of the spine. He was 34 years of age, and resided at 60 Robertson Road, Dunfermline.
