- 19 February 1931: Bo'ness Pit Fatality - Edward Downie (53), shot firer, East Castleloan, Bo'ness, died yesterday from the effects of serious injuries and shock. In the early morning he was suddenly overtaken by a fall from the coal face in Furnaceyard Pit, Kinneil. Pinned by the lower limbs to the pavement, one of his legs was fractured and he failed to get over the shock, and died soon after admission to the Edinburgh Royal Infirmary. Downie leaves a widow.
